Nouveller - Questions with designer folk

Benjamin Reid is a 'multimedia designer, specialising in web design.' He lives in the same city as Jade and myself, and is part of a band with a schoolmate of ours.

He has another site, apart from his personal one (linked on his name above) called Nouveller. Ben says that this site is his 'web outlet, a resource, an inspiration ... and a testing ground for my mad experiments.'

Recently, Ben created five quick fire questions for creative people to answer, which I wasn't aware of until he requested one last person - which was me (woot)!

Not to show off or anything, but here's the link to his post "Five quick fire questions with designer folk."

The other artists are amazing - I honestly feel a little lame being among them! Ben too is a brilliant designer and photographer, which you will see from browsing around his sites.

Thanks again! - Yasmin

UK I.D. Cards

Not impressed!

As most people should know, there will soon be I.D. cards in the UK and some sorta registry and whatnot.

The final design for the cards have been released -

The bit I'm not pleased about is that is this:
The aesthetic layout of the card is not dissimilar to a UK driving license but holds two fingerprints and a photograph encoded on a chip. the unique number on the card links it to the national identity register which under recent legislation may hold even more data about the cardholder.

Joy. I'm not pleased, but apparently the government are saying they won't be compulsory.. Yeah, lets see how long that lasts!

Whatever.. for more info click here

iPhone v Cookie

One of the SocialVibe Street Team orders is to make a video about your favourite brand on socialvibe. Sooo, me and Jade did Apple! We have done a "review" of her iPhone, and compared it to an ordinary touch-screen phone - my LG Cookie!

Enjoy

IQ Font

I was meant to post this the other day but I totally forgot.

There's a new font called "IQ Font" which has been created by a car!

Graphic designers Pierre Smeets and Damien Aresta, known collectively as pleaseletmedesign, teamed up with professional race car driver Stef van Campenhoudt to...create a font.

As you can see Campenhoudt did the "writing". The 4 dots on the roof of the car was tracked in real time using a camera and a custom software designed by fellow artist Zachary Lieberman of openFrameworks.

You can download it free and see a video of it's creation here.

I downloaded it and it's awesome :D

Dark energy and a wonky world

Here's one for the geeks - Dark energy may be disguising the real shape of the universe!

I have to confess I did not read the full article, because although I find it interesting, most of it was going over my head and I got bored of not understanding!

Basically, scientists said that they understood the universe to be pretty much flat and they knew the history all the way to just after the big bang, and that they could even predict the future. However, new discoveries have caused the picture of the universe to be "blown wide open again."

It's all down to "dark energy." I have no idea what that is, but the article explains that the shape (geometry) of the universe and dark energy are intertwined.

However, they say without a more precise measurement on the geometry "it is impossible to determine the nature and evolution of dark energy."

For more imformation, please click here - it will be a lot more useful than I am. Plus, if you know this stuff, I'm sure it's a very good read! Enjoy!
