The youth of today

How did we allow such a small amount of people ruin the image of today's youth?

I am often offended and ashamed to see people around my age being brandished as “anti-social” and “delinquents”, often being the cause of most of the country’s crime and just basically a big nuisance.

There is only a small minority that fit this profile. I mean, surely anyone reading this must know that if there is trouble around their area, they can almost pinpoint it on individuals. It’s not every teenager/young adult in the town or city!

I’m also upset that there isn’t more coverage on those that are good. Sometimes there is a story about an exceptionally good young person doing something for charity or their community, but those are hard to come by. The stories, I mean. The actual deeds are more common than anyone dares to consider, and it’s such a pity that our society has become like this.

Today I was shocked and appalled at one of my own relatives. She was offered a seat on a bus by a young man. She didn’t say around what age, but from her story I assume late teens or early twenties. She almost refused the seat, finding it suspicious that he offered. Now what in the entire world is suspicious about that? He had manners and was courteous enough to let an elderly woman take his seat on a busy bus. Is that not something we should be proud of and embrace, and not cower from?

I just hope that those that say “things get worse before they get better” are right, and this is as bad as it will get.
